Bracing overnight rains and chilly winds, thousands of protesting farmers on Thursday assembled at various places along the Haryana borders in Punjab amid mounting tension. Haryana transport cost scheme for labourers has no beneficiary

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government’s much-touted scheme of paying Rs 1,500 as transportation cost to each migrant worker engaged in the construction sector returning to the state after the lockdown appears to have benefited no one. As per the RTI sourced information, the state authorities have no record of any beneficiary of this scheme.

The information regarding the beneficiaries of the scheme and the total amount disbursed by the Haryana government was sought by Aseem Takyar, a Gurugram-based RTI activist. He had sought the information from the labour commissioner, who transferred the application to the Haryana Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board Haryana, as it was not available with his office. The applicant had sought the "details of persons who had registered under the scheme" and those who had actually received the money as announced by deputy CM Dushyant Chautala after lifting of the lockdown.

Farmers protest: Vigil stepped up in bordering areas of Delhi

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police on Thursday strengthened its presence in border areas of the national capital in view of the 'Delhi chalo' protest march by farmers against the Centre's new farm laws.

At the Singhu border, the Delhi Police stationed trucks filled with sand to stop movement of tractors driven by farmers, police said.

This is the first time that the city police has stationed trucks filled with sand at border points.

Police said the border has not been sealed but they are checking all vehicles entering the national capital.
